book clutch -- part 2, sort of

A while ago Ashley and I began a three-part craft to make clutches from books.  The first part went pretty smoothly but then we were put on hold by her being in DC for the summer.

Upon her return we attempted part 2, which was just to cut out the pages to form the cavity.  This seemed pretty straight forward. And I guess it is, but it's pretty time consuming...so after one attempt and a hundred or so pages cut, the books are on hold.

Thin books make for thin clutches...but they would have been done by now.

mini, helps

As mentioned, I've been behind on the crafting.  But, I've managed to do some mini projects:

I picked up some mini glass candle holders/planters/i-don't-know-but-they-were-cute/ things at some point and painted them using Martha's all-purpose craft paint in pink and gold.

I made more cards/postcards - these were with stamps and craft chalk.

I screen printed a shirt for the boy with  his home state of Arizona and a little cactus cut out around Phoenix.

I sewed a utensil pouch to match my sandwich wrapper.  I keep a fork and spoon at the office, and now they have a nicer place to live than just in the drawer. and it's seersucker, so it's extra classy.

i do love a mini project, finishing something in a couple of hours is so rewarding.

keep crafting it up!

sewn with love

Happy Valentine's Day!
I hope y'all are passing around some love to your friends and family and eating plenty of chocolate.

But let's get to the good stuff, the crafting.
This year Ashley and I were into sewing some of our valentines.

Here's what you do:
Sketch what you want to sew onto the card and then take a needle and poke holes around it like so:

Then start sewing with some embroidery thread.  After pulling the thread through the front of the card, loop it back through the previous hole for a smooth line.  Kind of like this:

Ta-Da!

It takes a bit of time, but it's pretty adorable.
I failed to get a picture of the mass of our valentines, but it was a pretty similarly sized pile to last year.

Also, we found this valentine mask, so of course I had to get it and then color it for a certain someone.

I know, flipping amazing! Who doesn't want a cat-in-a-bow-tie-mask-valentine???

soo very far

Ashley had seen these postcards and wanted them, but we are poor grad students, so I made some.  The back is a template from the wonderful Martha, airmail inspired. I made the front with a free picture of the good ol'USA and put it all in a word document and printed it on card stock, double-sided.

Then Ashbash sent me one over break, the cutest.

the post

I've always loved getting mail.  From people I care about at least.  Most mail these days is junk or bills, another form of junk. So when I get a postcard from ashley, or a letter from a friend, it makes me smile.

Especially when they are as cute as some of these:

From Jake, an adorable card with a more adorable envelope!

Ashley's not too shabby at the lettering either:

Or sending the best postcards, oh how i love pantone, and pink!

So take a moment, support the US Postal Service, and send a friend a letter,
it will make their day, I promise.
