yogurt, finally.

What? Yogurt? Really?
Yes. And you know why, because yogurt is so good, but store bought yogurt is often so terrible.

So what happened? Well I've been really unhappy with my yogurt situation lately.  All those standard varieties are too sweet or have fake sugar, even worse.

Ashley told me the real problem was that I was buying low-fat yogurt. The secret was whole milk.  hmm, I had never had this. So I went to the store and bought two things: Whole milk plain yogurt, and a bag of frozen berries.

What did I do? I spruced up that yogurt! I defrosted the berries, added a little brown sugar, honey, and vanilla. And whipped it up in the food processor.

(side note - savannah bee company honey is a must try!)

Finally. delicious yogurt, that's not too sweet, but just right.

winter in the mountains

Well, not the whole winter, just a weekend, in Asheville, NC.

It was lovely. An escape from work to the cold.

So yes, we snuck away for the weekend and really did very little.  We walked around a bunch and of course ate our way through town.

Favorite places?
Of course.  Asheville is a great place for food lovers. Perfect example - Laughing Seed Cafe. Yup, it's a veggie restaurant and it was so good. Really. You know I don't usually approve but they did an awesome job.  I had the special which had an arugula salad topped with baked mac and cheese topped with split pea seitan, all covered in béchamel. Absolutely delicious.

Ok, what else? Oh yes, and Early Girl Eatery is like two doors down and also fabulous. We went there for brunch and it was fantastic. Biscuits and gravy three ways - traditional, veggie, or vegan. The whole town was very food-friendly with veggie, vegan, and GF options everywhere.

There were other snacks and shops along the way. You should check it out for a little weekend getaway if you are in the region.

Oh and look at these adorable bike racks -

Precious, right?

break the fast all the time

Life is better with a good breakfast in your tummy.
So I have breakfast all the time, all the day long.

Fried eggs and Cranberry Pancakes -

Tomato and Cheese Omelette -

Sausage Scramble over English Muffin -

Crepes and Fried Eggs -

Oh, and most recently there were biscuits and veggie gravy with scrambled eggs, but no pics.
Yes, I did say veggie gravy. No, there are no veggies in it - I used fake veggie sausage patties and butter instead of sausage and lard.
I know, ridiculous.  But this is what happens with so many vegetarians in my life.

So no matter the meat content, go have some breakfast!

So I got this frame and painted it. I had this key-shaped key hook.
I put them together and now have my necklaces up and untangled.

Yup, it's working out nicely.

scarves finally

Pinterest of course showed me this.

Just grap some shower curtain rings and put them on a hanger.  You do have to have a lot of scarves to keep it balanced, so maybe you'll have to do some shopping...

but you'll be so organized afterwards!
